A field guide to the tools of ZenHeads.
Inspired by antique botanical illustrations and natural history plates, The Tool Taxonomy catalogs the curious little collection of combs, brushes, and more that we use at ZenHeads Massage Studio in Knoxville, TN.
The idea for this shirt came from my background in Classical Languages (here's to picking an occupation completely different than your college major!) and my love of botanical and natural history illustrations. I had way too much fun giving all of our tools their own Latin names and imagining them as specimens in some very serious old-world scientific catalog.
During one of our first filmed session shoots, when I was still figuring out what a ZenHeads “appointment” might look like, I had a friend in the studio who I was practicing on, and as I was using the scalp rakes in her hair, she said, “I am the Zen garden.”
And I thought that was oh-so-perfect.
